Tenuta Rasocolmo opens its doors to artists and becomes a large art atelier. With the Artist Residences project, Tenuta Rasocolmo estate will assign some of its spaces to welcoming artists from all over Italy and abroad: an initiative that will transform some of the rooms of the residence into actual studios for the creation of sculptures and installations.
An ambitious project, designed to create a space for work, research and reflection, to promote cultural exchanges and to bring the world of Arts even closer to the people who can admire the works while learning about the creative process that drives the artist’s creation. Year after year, Tenuta Rasocolmo will welcome different artists, all called to work on a themed project and to set their work to the Tenuta Rasocolmo’s Sculpture Park.
NOTICE FOR ARTIST RESIDENCE AT TENUTA RASOCOLMO 2023
Tenuta Rasocolmo intends using one of its areas as a temporary residence for artists (sculptors).
Historical notes about Rasocolmo Estate and Goals of the residence:
In an abandoned family estate of over 10 hectares, Francesco Giostra Reitano resumed in 2004 what used to be the family agricultural activity, giving new splendor to the promontory of Capo Rasocolmo, on the Tyrrhenian coast of the municipality of Messina, dominated by the homonymous lighthouse. Our Capo Rasocolmo vineyard is cultivated exclusively with Faro DOC wine and covers an area of three hectares.
In a dominant position over the surrounding landscape, it consists of a main residential building and other smaller service buildings, arranged. The farmhouse is surrounded by the vineyards and it overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north and, in the distance, the Aeolian Islands. Today it is the beating heart of an articulated cultural system at the service of the local population with a wide range of activities dedicated to the Arts.
In promoting the activation of the residency, Tenuta Rasocolmo intends to:
- provide artists with space for work, research, reflection;
- facilitate exchange and communication with the intent of promoting intercultural dialogue;
- facilitating the contacts between the artists in the residence and the realities of the territory, with the aim of activating cultural exchange and new relationship opportunities with the art system;
- foster relationships between the artists in residence and the tourist flow, with the aim of establishing relationships even beyond the period of residence and opening the host communities to knowledge of contemporary art.
Type of subjects sought:
The announcement is aimed at adult artists who work in the field of sculpture and installation (without any distinction of techniques or materials as long as they are designed for outdoor environments) and who are willing to live at Tenuta Rasocolmo for the entire period assigned to them. The expression of interest can be submitted by individual artists.
Artistic documentation:
To participate in the selection, each candidate must send:
- completed and signed application form
- photocopy of a valid identity document (or equivalent) picture ID;
- artistic CV, accompanied by any links to the artist’s personal presentation or website, and/or printed material, photographs, catalogs, projects, videos on CD or DVD;
- summary of the artistic project to be completed during the residency.
The documentation sent will remain in the records of Tenuta Rasocolmo and will not be returned. The application must indicate the preferred period chosen from those indicated in the following point. This indication is not mandatory for the client and may be subject to further negotiation with the artists.
Residence periods:
The residence periods related to this project are:
- February 2024;
- November 2024.
How to apply
Applications must be sent to: TENUTA RASOCOLMO - CANTINA GIOSTRA REITANO, STRADA STATALE 113, KM 23.200 CONTRADA PIANO TORRE, VICO DEGLI ULIVI - MESSINA, ITALY. by 12.00 on 31.12.2023. The envelope must bear on the outside the indications of reference to the competition “ ARTIST RESIDENCES AT TENUTA RASOCOLMO 2024”, the name of the candidate, his telephone and email addresses. Applications that are incomplete, received after the deadline for the call or do not comply with the indications will not be taken into consideration. The documentation accompanying the applications will not be returned.

At the e-mail address info@tenutarasocolmo.com it is possible to submit the application also by PEC . In this case, please note that the original of the application must be attached in pdf format and can be signed with a digital signature. The requested artistic documentation, and other documentation that the candidate intends to present, must be attached in commonly used application formats (Microsoft Office® or OpenOffice package).
Assignment of residences/span>
The selection of candidates will be made by a Commission made up of two specialists (Mariateresa Zagone, head of the Visual Arts section of Tenuta Rasocolmo and Roberta Guarnera, gallerist director of the Foro G Gallery) and the host. The Commission will select the winning artists at its sole discretion based on the evaluation of the following criteria:
- artistic curriculum;
- quality of the project proposal;
- consistency of the project proposal with the context of the residence;
- potential of the project to relate to the cultural, landscape and historical context on which Tenuta Rasocolmo stands.
The selected artists will be guaranteed:
- residence, including board and lodging, at the Rasocolmo Estate
- logistical support.
Tenuta Rascolmo will assign the resident artists the sum of € 1000 in total as a share of the out-of-pocket expenses, duly accounted for.
During the residency period each artist:
- Will have the possibility, if they wish, to set up an exhibition at the Estate (transportation of the works at his own expense);
- must be available to participate in any meetings and activities scheduled by the Estate during the residence;
- They will have to provide himself with every work tool necessary for the artistic practices carried out during the period of residence.
The residence is not equipped with professional equipment of any kind. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the artist.
At the end of the residency each artist will donate their work (made during or following the residency experience - max 15 days after) which will contribute to the formation of a collection of contemporary works that the Tenuta Rascolmo wants to establish at its headquarters.
The winners of the residence will have to read, sign and strictly comply with the regulation for the use of the structures and furnishings that will be delivered to them at the beginning of the residence. The artists also undertake to behave in a manner that respects the environment and the principles of civil coexistence. The names of the assignees of the residence will be published on the Tenuta’s website. The selected artists will be promptly contacted at the addresses indicated in the application form for the activation of all the Residency procedures.
Agenda:
The selected resident candidates will receive a calendar with the start and end dates of the residencies (7 days) as well as the regulations for the use of the facilities entrusted to them. It is also the faculty of the Estate to organize exhibitions that present the works produced during or following the period of stay.
Conditions:
The selected artists will be 1 for each of the indicated periods.

- for damages caused inside the house in the environment and to third parties which will be charged directly to the artist.
